My bets are mainly ML bets, as I typically stay away, not always, from Handicaps/spreads. And sometimes I’ll do a parlay for fun. But as any professional sports bettor will tell you, parlays can be “sucker,” bets because the strike rate isn’t always good and all it takes is one bad result to ruin your payout.

My initial stake units are usually somewhere between $5-10. For those bets, high ML’s, I typically do one of two things. First thing is I usually split my unit into two and then parlay it with either the under or over for a team that I know is going to win. (This way you can technically come ahead of the bookmakers but at least they get “something” in return.) Or I just take it straight up to get some $$ returned when I feel confident about one team.

Also, the biggest misconception in sports betting is to pay the full amount (juice) to make a profit. If bets are consistently heavy money, then yes you do have to pay the full amount for the juice. However, if you find consistent value (underdogs and near even money favorites) all you really need is about 55-60% of bets won to show profit.
