I lived in Rosarito Beach for 3 years (just 20 minutes south of TJ). Great experience. Yes there is violence, but if you are not out at 2am, you will miss most of it.
When in Mexico, it is very important to:
1) Always respect the culture and people. Do NOT go down there with a holier than thou attitude.
2) Always be aware of your surroundings. Shit is usually happening all around you.
3) Dress poor. No flashy jewelry or clothes. NEVER flash cash. (Remember, Mexico has many poor people, and poor people do desperate things for money).
4) HK club is pretty cool and straightforward. They have a hotel above the club with rooms that rent by the 30 minutes. Needless to say, cops are never a problem around there. (always keep a few hundred peso in your wallet for cops. If they pull you over, simply slide it through your car window and you can be on your way).
Always remember, all of these places are run by cartels. Cartels will always try to protect tourists (money). At least the higher-ups will. Adelitas (across the street) is also a good choice with some really hot chicks. Just don't pick up the street girls all up and down that block.
All of that being said, You can have a lot of fun there is you pay attention to the points above. The tacos are to die for, the tits are big and fake (a shoutout to you
@Sexaddict ) and the people for the most part will treat you well as long as you do not have a holier-than-thou attitude.
