Let me start by saying this isn’t a political post, just some insights based on my professional background. I work in finance and serve as an executive at a multi-billion dollar organization. I have access to a wide range of financial and economic forecasting reports, and I’ve been paying close attention to how broader economic trends are starting to impact our hobby.
Since the Trump administration, the U.S. economy has been on a constant roller coaster. Regardless of your political views, it's clear that we've seen growing economic instability over the past several years especially with inflation, interest rate hikes, and uncertainty in global markets. One of the most telling indicators consumer debt is at an all-time high, with credit card debt surpassing $1.13 trillion according to the New York Fed. That means more and more Americans are using credit just to make ends meet.
As a result, people are cutting back on discretionary spending including travel, dining out, and yes, adult entertainment. Within this community, I’m sure some of you have noticed changes too. More providers offering “limited-time” discounts, reducing their rates slightly, or becoming more flexible with regulars. That’s not a coincidence, it’s a response to decreased demand.
You may also have noticed a rise in providers requiring deposits before a booking or asking for compensation when providing a reference. These aren't necessarily red flags, they’re often ways providers are adapting to a tougher financial climate. With fewer clients reaching out, many are looking for ways to protect their time, filter out time-wasters, and ensure stable income.
Based on current economic trends and internal reports I’ve seen, we shouldn't expect a major improvement anytime soon. So don’t be surprised if more providers begin exploring creative ways to supplement their income, whether that’s through enhanced screening, new offerings, or policies designed to encourage reliability and reduce cancellations.
At the end of the day, these shifts reflect the broader economy. As hobbyists, awareness and mutual respect go a long way in keeping the community strong through uncertain times.
