Unfortunately, these are probably the same people that think their barista likes them or people who are paid to be nice to them are into them.
There is nothing wrong with believing that the PAID time you spend with somebody is special, and hopefully they make you feel special in that time and visa versa; however, that special time starts and stops when the time/transaction is over. Some people just have a hard time understanding that.
IMO, there should always be a respect that goes both ways before, during, and after a meeting.
I think the guys who go down this rabbit hole; it’s not necessarily about feelings, it’s about power. The fact of the matter is that there are different levels of clients. There is a level of client who probably has never been told no. They have so many resources and wealth and they can’t fathom that somebody would reject them. How dare someone not want them, I mean, they can give you ANYTHING you want, hell they might have just given you a lot. How dare anyone tell them no?
I’ve known people, and worked with people like this. It’s normally nepo babies or people who surround themselves with yes people. They see people as nothing more than compliments to them.
These people freak the fuck out of they can’t have what they want, especially if they feel they paid for it. They might make it about feelings, but it’s about power.
Or it could just be someone who is out of touch with reality. Either or, it’s in their best interest and yours to cut ties.
