Unpopular Opinion: Your Astrology Sign has Nothing to do With the Hobby

This might be a popular opinion or an unpopular one—I’m not sure—but it needs to be said: astrology has nothing to do with seeing us as clients. I realize this is turning into a bit of a rant, and I might be addressing only a small segment of providers here, but it’s not directed at anyone in particular—more at the trend itself. Lately, there’s been a noticeable uptick in providers asking for astrology signs during the booking process, and I just don’t get it.

It seems like this might be coming from newer providers, part of the same wave asking for gender identity with over 100 options to choose from. I understand the hobby evolves over time, and as clients, we often just have to adapt. That’s fine when the changes make sense. But asking for my astrology sign? That’s a stretch.

What does being a Gemini have to do with anything? I respect that some people deeply believe in astrology, perhaps as much as others believe in religion. However, that belief shouldn’t necessarily translate into the booking process. If astrology is a personal interest, it’s something to bring up naturally during a dinner date or another personal moment—not as a deciding factor for whether we meet at all. The idea that someone might not book me because Saturn isn’t aligned with Jupiter is baffling.

To be fair, I can imagine some providers might see astrology as a tool for screening or ensuring compatibility, which might tie back to safety concerns. But people are complex and can’t be fully defined by their zodiac signs or birth charts. Someone’s behavior or personality might deviate entirely from the traits typically associated with their sign.

I’m not trying to sound disrespectful or dismissive—it’s just that some trends don’t seem necessary to include in the hobby. This feels like one of them. Maybe it’s an attempt to weed out certain types of people, but I feel like there are more effective ways to go about that.

This might have turned into more of a rant than an opinion, but I’ve seen astrology questions pop up far too many times lately to stay silent. What do you think? Am I reading too much into this?
