With the new year comes TTS's release of their STD trends. This is something I like to drop at least three times a year as it's a reminder of what's out there when you're seeing providers. BB and getting tested not only protects you, it also protects the person you're seeing. This conversation always gets slightly hectic, with everyone giving their opinion on STDs being transmitted, which I'm fine with since I'd rather people be serious about their health than anything else. The numbers aren't anything groundbreaking, but they aren't bad either.

Chlamydia for males has gone down, whereas for women it has gone up. Keep in mind all these projections are using the height of STDs to calculate what they are now. With males dropping down a small one percent from where we were, I guess you can consider that good. Whereas females have gone up much higher compared to men, though still below the all-time high, which is also a great thing.

Remember, even though chlamydia is common in women, men can get it as well. It doesn't always show symptoms, but when you do have it, it's the same for both men and women. You have discharge, burning when you pee, and overall discomfort around your genitals.

Same outcome for gonorrhea. Us males dipped in cases found, whereas females went up by a whole .3%. Still, these are predictions TTS saw coming, and they aren't as bad as what they were. Symptoms for gonorrhea usually pop up within 2–14 days, and it has all the usual aspects you'd think: burning, discharge, and pelvic pain.

Finally, we have Mycoplasma genitalium, or MGen as we know it. Once again, women pull ahead, with their rates increasing by a whole .3%, while males didn't do much better, as it's still an increase. Males increased only .2%. MGen doesn't usually have symptoms and is often confused with other STDs/STIs, given the symptoms are so similar. When you mix together all the usual symptoms of contracting an STD along with consistent coughing, a doctor may rule it as MGen.

It doesn't sound bad, but it can get to that point unless taken care of. I've heard of people contracting this, and receiving the antibiotics is really no walk in the park. So when the PS wants you to get the Gold Panel test and make sure you're getting tested for MGen as well, this is why.

I'm going to put the link to the news here for people to read. TTS also goes over the throat and rectal swab trends that don't look as bad as they once did but have gone up with certain STDs. Constantly repeating myself when it comes to PR health, I know, is becoming annoying, but sadly I'm not going to stop doing so. Health is extremely important in this hobby and needs to be taken seriously. We aren't professionals, so a lot of us aren't taking as many tests as they are. I believe if you are seeing providers often, then you probably should. Providers have no choice but to get tested in this day and age, while a lot of us are still figuring out where we should go as well as what to expect when you jump into this hobby. It can be scary at first, but if you're taking your tests and following the rules that go along with it, then this hobby can give you one of the best times of your life.
