According to the article, the rates of throat cancer are increasing in the UK and the US, and experts believe that the increase is due to a rise in oral sex. The article argues that the human papillomavirus (HPV) is responsible for the rise in throat cancer cases.
The crazy fucking interesting thing, is smoking and alcohol use have traditionally been the main causes of throat cancer, recent research shows that HPV is now the leading cause of the disease. The article also highlights that HPV is a sexually transmitted infection, and that oral sex is a common mode of transmission. According to experts, the risk of developing throat cancer from HPV is higher in people who engage in oral sex with multiple partners.
From what I know if you have the HPV vaccine it doesn't mean you won't catch the cancer, but there's a very slim chance you get it. HPV is a virus that has run rampant through the hobby with no signs of slowing down at all. If you're in this hobby and will continue to dabble in it you may want to consider getting the vaccine if you haven't already gotten it.
