I think most of us have, at some point, dreamt of going to Thailand or Colombia/Argentina/Paraguay etc. for a so-called sexcation - warm weather, good food, and most importantly: cheaper sex. Rates are, undeniably, a lot lower than in the West.
Recently, though, I’ve had some thoughts about it, mostly about the cons. This is a multi-faceted post, so stay with me.
The biggest downside, in my opinion, is how easy it can be to get accused of something you didn’t do. In many cases, you have no real way to prove your innocence. You’re in a foreign country, you don’t speak the language, and access to a competent attorney can be difficult if things escalate.
I know I’m describing worst-case scenarios here, but they are very real. We’ve all read horror stories about sex tourists getting into serious trouble. Sure, some of those cases may be legitimate - boundaries crossed, agreements broken, but there are also stories of men who simply went on a three-week holiday to enjoy themselves and suddenly found themselves trapped in a legal nightmare. Oops.
That’s why part of me often thinks: “It’s really not that bad here in Denmark.” I’d rather pay the standard European rates and have a much greater sense of safety if something unexpected happens - especially when it’s completely out of my control.
On the other hand, there’s the opposing reality. Thousands of men do exactly this every year - some even end up bringing a partner home or moving abroad permanently. I’ve seen plenty of men in wealthy areas around Greater Copenhagen walking around with very beautiful Asian - almost always Thai, women by their side. Younger, yes, but not with the extreme age gaps that people often like to exaggerate.
Bottom line: there are clear pros and cons. Traveling abroad for sex can be tempting, but it requires awareness, caution, and realism.
Like most things in this hobby, it’s about understanding the risks and deciding what level of risk you’re personally willing to accept.
