The New Era of Adult Platforms; And What It Means for Clients

I’m sure a lot of people have seen what’s been going on with online adult platforms as of late. I was going to single out OnlyFans, but this new regime seems to be stretching past them to other platforms as well. I can’t really speak on why this is all happening at once I’m sure there’s some kind of political catalyst, which makes me not want to go further down that rabbit hole even more. The point is it’s happening, and it’s not going anywhere. My mind, being that of a client, is trying to see how this would trickle down to us. Good or bad remains to be seen, though I wouldn’t mind exploring it.

When I specified online adult platforms, I meant two of the biggest ones, in my opinion. I’m talking about ManyVids and OnlyFans. I don’t know if you can even call either one adult platforms anymore, as both are trying their hardest to separate themselves from the entertainment that made them so popular to begin with.

Recently, the ManyVids CEO emailed their creators showcasing their new initiative. In a brief summary, the email outlined new goals being implemented in order to help sex workers be their best selves as they transitioned out of sex work to bigger and better things. This offended a lot of mainstream and content sex workers, as it gave off the illusion that being a SW isn’t a career path they chose for themselves. Many SWers have said their piece on social media, letting ManyVids know how much they hate where the platform is going along with the assumption that their career was one built on inevitability rather than choice. ManyVids decided to ignore all that and double down on their new “Regulated E-Social Ecosystem” with a step-by-step map to becoming a creator making $80,000 a month.

G5ov_WsWkAA8JDP.webpAfter all this came the new criminal background checks happening on OnlyFans. The online platform is joining other civilian platforms such as Uber, Instacart, DoorDash, and surprisingly enough Netflix in using Checkr Trust to run criminal background checks on their creators. Without knowing what will happen when this is implemented, content creators are showing how displeased they are with this happening. OnlyFans is far unlike any of these other civilian platforms who are using this company to run these background checks. Although, with the company trying day after day to slightly distance themselves from what made them so popular to begin with, they must not realize that as helpful as they’re trying to be, they’re doing more harm than good.

From a client’s point of view, I can only give my simple thought process on what this could mean for us. With these two online platforms being so strong within the adult content community, you have to look at the models who provide as well as create content. With OnlyFans not specifying what process will come after Checkr Trust is implemented, providers are scrambling a little. Pornhub did the exact same thing last month, and I haven’t heard any backlash over that. Still, those with criminal records in providing might see their accounts banned as Onlyfans as a zero tolerance rule with providing on their platform. This could lead them to pursue more in-person work; however, they will still lose a source of income that was needed. Win for clients, though it does make things harder for providers. ManyVids is losing content creators as well. Many are trying to find other platforms that agree with their ideology along with having better payouts not something easy to find right now.

This is for sure going to have an influx for the hobby. For clients, it’s going to have a lot of us enjoying ourselves and living life to the fullest. For providers, this puts them in a lot of different situations that could open up a better career path while at the same time putting them in harm’s way. I would just be mindful of what’s happening right now while also understanding where they’re coming from.
