I'm planning to visit Thailand either later this year or by 2025, but recent information has made me reconsider some aspects of my trip. It was the comments on this post that made reconsider wether I should go or not.
I always thought that prostitution and sex work were completely legal in Thailand, but it turns out that's not the case. You can face significant fines if you're caught with a sex worker, as I understand it. If I'm mistaken, please correct me. The sex workers themselves are also at considerable risk, as they can face legal consequences for offering their services. There are regular raids on the famous BJ bars and even some brothels, which only adds to the uncertainty.
Another surprising fact is that shooting porn or even possessing it on your phone or laptop is against the law in Thailand. I'm curious if this law also applies to recording private sessions with a sex worker if I were to bring her back to my place. Knowing these legal restrictions, I would avoid staying in a hotel under these circumstances.
It seems like Thailand may need to reconsider its stance on these issues. The country is one of the top three destinations for sex tourists, and it may not be sustainable to ignore this reality much longer.
