North Korean soldiers deployed to support Russia’s military efforts in Ukraine are experiencing a surprising distraction: the unrestricted internet. For many of these troops, accustomed to North Korea’s rigidly controlled “Kwangmyong” intranet, Russia’s internet offers a wealth of previously unseen material — and a significant number of soldiers are reportedly turning their attention to adult content.
Unlike the limited, propaganda-laden content available in North Korea, the open internet in Russia has proven to be an unexpected temptation for these soldiers, many of whom are encountering unrestricted online access for the first time.
