I shouldn't have to say but I am. Please keep your opinion on the situation happening on X to yourself.

I’m sure by now everyone knows what’s happening on the PS side of X. It has literally exploded over the past two days, and the aftereffects are still being felt wherever some of us look. It all stems from an abuse allegation by an adult actress who worked with a male co-star to create content together. Things were not communicated well, some type of confusion took place, which led to the actress turning to social media and dropping a Dropbox folder full of evidence telling her side of the story. Inside that Dropbox were screenshots of their conversations, along with videos pertaining to what was recorded between the two, as well as the actress’s take on what happened. One particular video caught my eye, and it had me thinking about the state of the hobby now, as women are starting to see it as less safe to work in.

case-videos-informed-consent.jpgWhat I didn’t know was happening in the industry or content creation, however you want to look at it was consent videos. The closest thing I’d ever seen to that was the 10–12 minute video Kink.com would have prior to shooting any scenes. It would usually feature the performer talking about themselves, what they would like done to them, what their hard no’s were, and where their limits were. I had no idea this was being worked into the industry as a whole. The video the actress included in her Dropbox was essentially the same thing. It went over her likes and dislikes, as well as her hard no’s.

So my thought process is this: if this is becoming common in the adult industry now, how long until it slides its way into the hobby? The number of providers who have come forward this year after being abused during a booking is insane. Keep in mind, this is only the women who have come forward. When you think about the ones who’ve chosen to stay quiet for fear of criminal charges or other consequences being brought up, God knows what that number really is.

As much as I don’t want consent videos to become a thing, I really see it happening. If not for the safety of the provider, then for the safety of the client, because there are two sides to every story. None of us want to be caught in a situation where we can’t prove that up is up and not down is up. I think it’s very possible that within the next five years or so, we’ll see this slowly make its way into the hobby and become normalized. I’d like to say there’s something we can do stop this from happening, but I think we passed the point of no return a long time ago.

I’m not trying to scare anyone with this, nor am I trying to say it’s all the client’s fault. As safe as video consent can be and it is safe for many reasons it’s still not something I’d be happy to participate in, for many different reasons. I’m just pointing out where we are now as a hobby. It’s already hard enough to navigate as a client with so many legal changes happening, and video consent is just another layer that we really don’t need.

With there being nothing more we can do it all becomes a waiting game. If this does come to pass a lot of us will leave the hobby as well as providers possible finding another career to pursue. Feels as if there's always something there to make this hobby more and more difficult to enjoy, consent video can for sure be one of them.
