I know this has been discussed before, but I need to vent. It shouldnāt be this difficult or expensive to get tested in NYC, āthe city that never sleepsā. First, there are only 2 TTS locations to get tested at in all of Manhattan, both of which are 3rd party medical facilities. These types of facilities all charge draw fees and swab fees, which run around $120 above the standard TTS fee, and testing at a 3rd party location requires an additional $35 FedEx priority overnight fee, or $65 for Saturday delivery. And as I recently discovered, FedEx isnāt always reliable, so you should never trust them enough to test on the last possible day.
I know there are other ways of getting tested, but from what Iāve read, theyāre not always easier or cheaper than TTS and are not as universally accepted by providers.
Since I need to be tested for an important date Monday afternoon, I chose to get tested today. I booked a test this morning at the facility on 57th that Iāve used a bunch of times before. When I get there, they tell me theyāre out of ice and wonāt have any until Friday, so they canāt ship the samples to Miami for testing until then and therefore, canāt take samples until then. If I wait until Friday, I have to pay $65 to get the samples to Miami Saturday morning and if everything goes perfectly, I will be cleared Saturday night. But if anything goes even slightly wrong, my results wonāt be in until Monday night and my Monday afternoon plans are significantly less enjoyable.
So I call TTS and change my test location to the other one in downtown Manhattan. That was relatively easy, at least. Then I call the downtown location to make sure they can test me this afternoon and after waiting on hold almost 10 minutes, they tell me theyāve used their last test kit and wonāt have any more until Friday.
I call TTS again, and discuss my options. I can wait until Friday, come back to NYC, pay the extra $30 and hope for the best, or go to one of several locations in New Jersey today or tomorrow (too late in the day to be feasible today and Jersey is kind of far to go last minute tomorrow), or I can go to a very inconveniently located facility in Queens tomorrow before 1:30. I chose the Queens location tomorrow, and called them to verify they have test kits and ice, and now have to arrange some work and personal stuff around that. So I came into NYC today from the suburbs for no reason other than to get very frustrated.
Any friends located in NYC, you canāt test here tomorrow. Itās NJ or Queens. But please donāt use up the last test kit or ice in Queens. Please![]()
TTS, you need a wholly-owned BioCollections lab in NYC that doesnāt charge any fees and tests same day. This is unacceptable.

I've only been asked once and I just say that I have cameras and sometimes shoot stuff for my friend, and that anyone on set needs to be tested. The one in my area has a rather inquisitive phlebotomist that is always too curious about āwhyā Iām testing using TTS ā even going so far as to ask me what my āOn screen pseudonymā was ā I just give him a blank stare and a glare. He (usually) stops talking after that. Sometimes he persists and giggles and tries asking me more questions. Really unprofessional.

They shouldn't ask you though.
Is it weird I dont have this problem even though im 41 haha... legit if I shave i look like im 15-20(got carded for cigarettes till I quit a few months ago all the time) so the ppl at my local tts even ask me when they look at my file "you're 41 wow". It probably depends where you are getting tested as well. I have never gotten a direct question, but I get a kick out of people behind the counter giving inquisitive glances (maybe it's just my own sub-conscious) trying to figure out who this middle aged man is lol.
I'm calling as these places open tomorrow, so if I hear anything I'll let you know and if you hear anything give me the heads up. Better that way.
CALL TTS ahead of time so that they can ensure testing kits are at your testing locations.Iām sure this is because of Exxxotica this weekend since even Forest Hills was out today and they always order extras. But I agree this shouldnāt happen in a city like NY. Canāt believe this is still an issue over a year after I wrote this post.
Thankful I tested last Wednesday and was covered for what turned out to be an incredible date today and one other adventure this week.
Not disagreeing at all, but I wish it wasn't necessary to call anyone for any reason. Even calling the draw facility before you go, finding out they have test kits and making an appointment with them, then booking the test with TTS doesn't guarantee you'll get a test. It's comical how hard it can be to get tested in NYC, and that's not counting the things that can go wrong after you've successfully gotten your samples drawn.CALL TTS ahead of time so that they can ensure testing kits are at your testing locations.
Yeah I Dm'd him earlier today. I took the last kit at Forest Hills this morning. They were on the phone with someone when I was there and were talking about getting more - so might be worth a call in.Posting on behalf of @king-sama4u2nv whose phone isn't letting him post this right now, there are no test kits available today at Lexington Medical Associates in NYC, nor are there any at Forest Hills or the Bronx. He said "Wall Street is a big maybe".
Forest Hills has always been good about having kits in stock so it makes sense that theyād be upset that they ran out.Yeah I Dm'd him earlier today. I took the last kit at Forest Hills this morning. Edit - Just adding they were complaining that they didn't have enough and told them last week - I assume TTS on the phone - that they were going to run out.
I was planning to make an appt at Forest Hills to get tested for a date at the end of the week. But my plans changed and I canāt make the date on Friday. I guess thatās a blessing upon hearing all the drama with getting tested this week!Yeah I Dm'd him earlier today. I took the last kit at Forest Hills this morning. I seem to never have an availability issue regarding testing kits in Long Island but every time I go they are training someone new on the process. Also 2 shipping mishaps.Today was a fucking adventure for sure. I had some intentions of heading to Long Island tomorrow with @Swytypy help, but I though New York would come through for me. Of course, I know now not to put to much trust in New York. So, I contact Swytypy and was off on my adventure. Trip was actually pretty smooth and was smoother with Swytypy waiting at the train station waiting to give me a ride. We talked about the usual conquest were I was able to hear about his Sage Hunter (Tryst Agency) encounter in person and even though I have yet to read the written review I'm sure listening about it was better. Was having me want to book so fast. Lol!!!
For an adventure, this one was one pretty damn fun. I appreciate Swytypy coming in clutch the way he did, because if he didn't I would have had a very shitty week.
On another note, Anyone trying to mass call TTS next year? Because I'm for damn sure making it my mission there's a test in every single facility in New York at the next Exxxotica. Lol!!!
Why I'm watching mine like a hawk right now. Don't have time for any mishaps.I seem to never have an availability issue regarding testing kits in Long Island but every time I go they are training someone new on the process. Also 2 shipping mishaps.
My best experience was flying from NYC to miami for same day testing. Why I'm watching mine like a hawk right now. Don't have time for any mishaps.
