Uber vs. Lyft vs. Cabs (Your Personal Recommendations Based on Reliability / Price / etc.)

This popped in my head as a possibly useful discussion, especially for people who travel a lot. Obviously, if you rent a car, it doesn't matter.

This popped in my head as a possibly useful discussion, especially for people who travel a lot. Obviously, if you rent a car, it doesn't matter.

But if you're relying on uber / lyft / cab, in 2024, which would you recommend in, I don't know...let's say Manhattan? Especially from people that live there and use these services. Can be anywhere of course; Vegas, Chicago, Minneapolis, Toronto (I don't think uber / lyft is in Canada?), London, etc. etc. etc.

I could be wrong; maybe this isn't that good an idea, but maybe it is? Heck, maybe the subway is the best way to get to that incall in some cities? Anyway, please share your experiences.

For Manhattan i would say Cabs are way more cheaper compared to other options. Ofc subway is cheaper but u will be sweating by walking just to get to the trains station and id rather take the cab with ac to go fresh and clean if its incall and they are usually reliable they drive fast and get u in time and u can find them in any streets

I’ve used all 3 in Manhattan many times and have found Lyft the cheaper of the ride share options. Cabs are usually even cheaper than that if you can get one. It’s much easier to get one if you’re right near someplace like Penn station. The biggest problem with any of these options in the city is traffic. Almost every time I’ve been in a car on my way to a date, the ETA changes multiple times, sometimes drastically, as cars ahead of us jump lights or miss a chance to go through a light because of pedestrians or other cars who aren’t following the rules. I once had to get out of a Lyft and walk 10 blocks to her hotel and then shower when I got there, because my ETA went from being 5 minutes early to being 5 minutes late when a construction crew closed off a road ahead of me. And just last week, I was 10 minutes late for my date with Kitt Jones (Tryst Agency) due to unexpected delays getting a car to pick me up and then traffic. I’d almost recommend taking the subway in the city.

For the suburbs, Lyft is almost always 10-25% cheaper for me.

I go Uber go Lyft which ever is least expensive, but I have stopped talking the subways to incalls. As a New Yorker, subways have been my life my entire life with it being the quickest way to get around the city. However, depending on what time of year it is the subways can be a death trap. I'm not talking about it killing you, which the subway can, I'm talking about the environment itself and for me at least; the sweating.

I'm a fast walker and when I walk I sweat. While I'm doing so I'm usually dressed very nice adding to the heat. So I've got heat coming from clothes, nervousness, and most of all, the subway. I'm a walking puddle. Uber and lyft makes all of those things meaningless, IMO.

So regardless of the amount your paying for these, I think the good outweighs the amount for transportation.

The key is to have enough time before the booking time so you don’t have to run or worry about traffic. But also without getting to the hotel so early that you’re standing outside like a vagabond. It’s a tough balancing act.

Don't look weird if you're standing by the bus stop. I get their early enough to case the joint and get in the mind space to fake as much confidence as possible. I can do all that standing or sitting at the bus stop. Lol!!

I always worry that the text will come in telling me to go upstairs when I’m as far away from the door as possible and then I’ll be even more nervous and have to rush! So unless there’s a bus stop right out front, I’ll just wait by the door and try not to make eye contact with the doorman

Whatever method gets me to the incall on time (when it’s 1500+ per hour) is my preferred choice lol

In NYC, I generally go with the following:

1Lyft
2 Revel
3 Uber
4 Cab

Revel can generally be the cheapest (plus if you actually care about said things, they're actual employees of the company). Their drivers are generally really friendly too. I have a referral code that can give you a decent discount on your first two rides, just DM me.

Lyft is good, in terms of availability and price. They keep 100% of their tips, which is something that you can feel good about.

Uber sucks in many ways, which is why I only use them as a last resort. It can be hard to hail a cab depending on where you are and what time of day it is.

I tend to overheat (meaning sweat profusely) if I take the subway. I generally only take it to bookings if I build a ton of extra time into my commute.

Not going to bring up the "pause" on congestion pricing and how that pretty much made traffic worse...

Granted, I’m not from the States, but I’ve been around. I’d definitely say Uber.

I’d also recommend having one or two drivers you really click with and can contact anytime when heading to a session. Riding with a driver you get along with is SO much better than going with a random one.
