There are things you read that can blow your mind and there are things you read that have you asking WTF!!! Ya'll can take a guess as to which one I'm writing about now. A good friend brought it to my attention and I have commend him for it, because this shows you what happened when you mix fantasy with reality.
A Washington County man, Fred Brunner, has filed a lawsuit against a Las Vegas dancer, Melanie Sterling, alleging that she defrauded him of over $35 million in a scheme lasting nearly a decade. According to the lawsuit, Brunner met Sterling at a gentleman's club in Las Vegas in 2014, while he was going through a divorce. Sterling allegedly took advantage of Brunner's wealth by creating a fake relationship and manipulating him into giving her money.
Over ten years, Brunner claims Sterling received and took control of more than $3 million from him. Additionally, she was in a romantic relationship with another man in Las Vegas and gave some of Brunner's money to him. Brunner is seeking at least $3.5 million in compensatory damages and $35 million in punitive damages.
I want to call this a number of things. I want to say this man was a simp, but I don't think that would be the correct word. Yes he was take advantage in a low point in his life and the stripper most likely saw that and ran with it. There's no guarantee that's what she did, but there is a strong possibility. The article stated Brunner and Sterling were in a romantic relationship, so there's a fair assumption they were intimate, so this isn't an actual romantic relationship; it's a provider/client relationship.
I don't know how deep Brunner fell into this wonderland of a fantasy Sterling made him. To notice she didn't have another man should be easy to tell, but this woman might have put up a fantasy that he didn't see given his divorce. Sure it was 10 years ago, though you can't know how long it takes the heart to heal and I guess it took him 10 years.
I hope Brunner gets his restitution from this entire ordeal. I also hopes he understands to look at the cracks in the wall when they become apparent, because they maybe more trouble then they're worth.
