I can take you back to the 1990s and early 2000s. Note that by the early/mid 2000s there was already TER and agencies like TLC. At the time there was real money for a PS in the strip club feature tour. More often than not a top name PS would be the feature in clubs in LA (duh) and in NY. The clubs flew them in, put them up, and then made money on the increased attendance and the increased take they got from the lap dances which were 2x or 3x the usual price. To get an escort session with a PS took some cultivation at the club, some lap dances, being there multiple times. Once you got them to see you once it typically was a go for every time they were in town. Cost, even with inflation was waaaayyyyyyyy cheaper. Going rate was around $300/hr which is about $750 in today's dollars. Plus meets were either after they were done which almost always just led to an overnight for 1k or so or a late morning meet before they had to be at the club. They might be tired at the end of their shift, but you pretty much knew you were the only client either in the morning or at night. First gal I met this way was Victoria Paris. She in turn passed along introductions to her friends (and keep in mind the porn world was much smaller back then).
Some enterprising gals did have little ads in place like the village voice but never tried those, seemed dicey.
