Etsy has announced a significant policy change that will ban the sale of sex toys and other adult content on its platform starting July 29.
This decision comes as part of Etsy's efforts to align with evolving industry standards and ensure a "safer environment" for its users.
The new policy will prohibit listings that depict sexual acts, genitalia, and impose stricter guidelines on other mature content.

Alice Wu Paulus, Etsy’s trust and safety lead, explained that these updates are necessary to "maintain the integrity of the marketplace", ensuring it remains a creative and welcoming space for all users.
However, the move has sparked concern among sellers who rely on the platform to market their adult products.
Many sellers feels "betrayed" by Etsy, highlighting the significant impact this policy change will have on their businesses.

Etsy, known for its diverse range of handmade and vintage items, now faces the challenge of balancing community standards with supporting its sellers. As the implementation date approaches, affected vendors are seeking alternatives and voicing their frustration over the abrupt shift in policy. The platform's commitment to safety and evolving standards underscores the complexities of moderating content in a global marketplace.

I personally think it´s a huge mistake by Etsy. Everyone should be able to sell any sort of products they want on the platform, as long as they're legal of course.
Let´s see if they eventually reverse the new rules like OF did way back in 2022 when they were about to ban adult videos.
