Just a day ago, a friend sent me this video. He found it surfing through Reddit, as many of us do, after a legal courtesan was seen promoting it on her profile. It’s another documentary on a legal brothel that we’ve all seen a hundred times, but this documentarian really dove into what it would be like as a client. It gives us the rundown from start to finish while answering every question I think we’d love to know, other than the biggest question: the going rate. Still, I couldn’t stop watching.

The documentary was made by a new studio by the name of Zandland, owned and operated by Ben Zand, the documentarian. Zand does what documentaries do going around different places to find the uniqueness the world has to offer. They just so happened to find themselves in Nevada visiting Sheri’s Ranch, one of a few that I’ve spoken about in the community. Zand had a typical day at the ranch. He met the women there one at a time, as clients do, got a tour of the grounds as the courtesans do with their clients, and finally, he went to the room where everything would happen. Normal shit.

As Zand got more familiar with the women, he found how different each of them was. How they all had their reasons for working at the ranch, yet the similarities of being there kept them there. All of them preached a no-judgment zone where a client can be their best self without the need to hide who they are. I gotta say, the way the women broke it down was extremely comforting. As clients who use agencies and see independent providers, we don’t always get that feeling of no judgment. It’s implied when you book, but you really never know what you’ll get when that hotel door is opened.

I found Zand’s talk with the madam of the ranch to be very eye-opening. The way she spoke about how difficult it is juggling 85 women when only 25 can be at the ranch at any given time showed how much demand there really is for legal courtesans, as well as the challenge of dealing with all of them having different aspirations and goals they’re trying to achieve.

There wasn’t much I didn’t already know about what the documentary was showing me. I’ve either read something or watched another documentary about the few ranches Nevada has left. I can say there’s one thing I did learn. The way these courtesans open up is very different from the way independent providers do. With them being in a safe space like the ranch, they have a level of comfortability that I don’t think can be replicated in a hotel room. There’s truly no telling what will happen in a hotel room when two people are together. The same can be said for a room in the ranch, but there’s a panic button. If not a panic button, there’s security. If not actual security, it’s the security of knowing you aren’t really alone. All of that plays a big role in how comfortable the courtesan is, which in turn does the same for the client. The more secure she feels, the more comfortable the client will feel as well. This is an aspect I would love to experience, if not for curiosity, then for what it could do for me sexually.

I enjoyed watching this documentary. The rate was really the biggest thing keeping me from visiting a brothel. I mean, why drive just to be overcharged when I can send an email or a text for less? Although, I really do see what visiting a ranch could mean. The freedom we feel with independents could be just as strong, if not stronger, within the confines of a brothel. You know, that normal shit we try to go for. I would give this a watch if you’re interested in visiting one of these places.
