was thinking back about how escorting has evolved
first saw an escort around 1991. had mulled it over and finally decided to take the plunge. there is that debate in one's mind before doing so
where would one get info? lol. no reviews. so..... .... you'd go to the yellow pages! Good Time Charlies, A Taste of Honey, etc. yep right there in the phone book. my first was like so so. back think no kissing. everything covered. she was a little pudgy, I think it cost $160. she was nice, after asked if I wanted to see her friend later. lol & back then closer to the newness of HIV concerns. even though covered, I went straight to the Health Department in a week to get tested. and then they'd put that swab up your penis really uncomfortable.
after that started to see women at some massage places. the massage scene was not even close to what it was now. sure, there were Asian massage parlors, just many had hot japanese girls that were 25-35 (not 45+), white women, black women, really nice looking ladies. all covered, no kissing that was standard. the first BBBJ was though about 6 years later for hot girl, who actually bought me a wallet around Xmas. now the massage stuff is Chinese/Asian & Columbian/Venezuelan sex trafficted stuff, older and much less attractive women.
back then one could draw a 2 mile circle around the Orange County airport, and there were about 15 or so massage places, nice places.
for escorts it really was a wild west, it wasn't this $500 + today market, it was about$160 or $250 or so +, but sheesh, talk about a crapshoot. internet hadn't proliferated nor cell phones until we got closer to 2000 could use a land-line ! yuk . there were the pay phones all over, so yeah, literally if you wanted to wait for a call back, I mean really who wants to loiter at a payphone more than one to two minutes standing by a pay phone, lol. girls in general not as independent, cause the type of advertising cost money and work, and the entry into the 'profession' had to basically go to glorified 'pimps' . sure some word of mouth but jeez that is hard.
had a couple really bad encounters, one in OC I went to the room, and something seemed wrong she was cold, we were discussing a bit, I got cold feet, and said I needed to go, and not sure if she was wired, but she said somethign like "you need to get in here" so I went out and got about 20 yards in the courtyard and there was that wirey looking white guy walking fast towards the direction, and just kept my head down. dang if he'd got in to that room, who knows for sure he might have got physical. there were shakedowns back then, not for big bucks, but just so many scams with girls just offereing to get undressed, then wanted $100 chunks to nowhere. tons of scams. if the woman was hot back then, I just assumed it was a scam, lol. hence why a massage place was a better deal. some really odd escort stuff
the OC Register had like two pages full of escort and massage ads. and we wonder why they can't afford local beat reporters? those ads brought in major money, 4-5 pages in teh Sunday section for job ads. all gone now. thank god won't have to job search in teh future with all the automated response and barriers to actually apply for a job.
the LA weekly rags had tones of ads as well. something nostalgic about that era, and thumbing thru those ads. could get those from LA to OC.
porn stars? really didn't even consider it until about 1999, would go to some strip clubs (Anaheim LAX Jet strip lol, or a couple up in SF, the captial of Strip and side job escorting, and you could bang a girl at Market Street Cinema, Crazy Horse is still around, places there had rooms. Porn Stars were regulars at the high end clubs, and they'd score a lot of cash for a weekend up there. Thinking back, sitting at the Market Street Cinema was kind of fun. girls come up to you for a 'dance' lol.
at the start of 90s, no reviews. by 1998 though was changing, cell phones internet. open information was letting escorts to actually begin being independant.
Redbook, based in Bay Area was I think one of the first and definitely was bluntly 'client' POV. rating inflation hadn't crept in. the reviews were short and too the point, in a way Redbook was never improved upon for accurate, now all the review/blog sites have so many shills and exaggerated Penthouse Forum type reviews that are comical. now one has to read between the lines to make use of a review, on any site. At first TER was pretty darn good, and not he K-Girl dominated shill site it is today. some interesting stuff, and I think TER did contribute to the rise of better service like GFE and more 'elite' girls, but really nice ladies at $400 and above. and good women for $300. I remember one named Sandra Williams
there as a women in Florida Rhonda? that had PS escorts, for like $600 (they girl got $360 to $400 I think).
by end of decade a really good time. had pretty much gone away from massage places, just escorts were becoming a bigger piece of the market. My first PS was Bunny Bleu in LA, can't even remember how set that up. all covered. then got to see Jessica Jewel in OC before she got busted (she was a lawyer too), and wish had seen again. had only seen a couple before heading to the 2000s, where things really exploded (no pun) with porn star and escorts would become a lot more intimate.
by 2000s, the phone book ads, and newpaper ads had dwindled down. and early on site ads were increasing.
