Everyone has their own opinion on this matter. Some speculate what could have been happening, while others say what they would have done at the moment. I have my opinion, but the biggest thing I can say about this entire situation is that we were not there. This happens a lot in the industry—people are put into uncomfortable positions, and instead of addressing it immediately, they decide to leave it as is. I've never been in such a position, so I can't speak on the matter directly. However, I can say that this happens far too often, and the industry as a whole should look into why these individuals aren't speaking up immediately after the fact.
Why is it that in a room full of people, no one asks, "Is this person okay?" (Don't know if they did or not)
Why does someone decide to speak up now rather than when it occurred?
These aren't hard questions to answer, because they all have the same answer: fear.
Fear of repercussions, fear of being judged, fear of losing opportunities, fear of not being believed. These fears can paralyze someone in the moment and prevent them from speaking out. The industry needs to create a safer environment where individuals feel empowered to speak up immediately without fear of consequences. Addressing this issue is crucial for fostering a more supportive and respectful industry for everyone involved. Just my two cents.
